Day 29 - Asymmetric Entry with Wavy Glass

I found this entry to be very different from the others in my 31 day challenge in its asymmetry. The round column gives a contemporary look, yet the stacked stones soften the facade. The wavy glass on the door and sidelights further soften the look, and perhaps echo the waves of the ocean behind the house. The door appears to lead to the front yard, and the light area in the glass appears to be the sky in the open area between the entry door and the house within.

wow, what an amazing set of glass doors. This allows all the light in yet still provides privacy. What a great find.

I love this door, the waves seem to be dancing, I like your idea of echoing the ocean.

I find that the very modern glass doors with maybe metal door frames, don't really match the earthy stone of the surroundings and the steps. But there is also the very different round pillar so it all adds up to a very eclectic sort of entryway to me. Interesting and attractive though, but eclectic.

Another nice photo for your collection. They all seem to go together so well. This picture leaves me wondering where the door bell is.

It's interesting that there are such beautiful and elaborate doors and entries that don't even belong to the house. I'm so used to a doors leading into houses, so I find it strange to have such gates/doors just to get into where the door is to the home.

What are the reasons to have entries like this? Is it for security reasons, privacy reasons, or reasons just because they can?

I think it's all 3! Actually most of the lots that the houses are on are small. Nearly all of the gated houses you see in my gallery lead to houses where the back of the house faces the ocean. Those houses have little or no rear yard, or maybe a small patio. The only "yard" space they have is between the front door and the street. Many people have walled in their front yards for privacy so they can enjoy the outdoor area, say to barbecue, have a swimming pool, etc. without being seen by all the neighbors. As you may have noticed, most of these gates are locked, and have bells or buzzers to allow entrance. Some even have closed circuit TV cameras (you can see if you look closely).

The wavy glass doors is really unusual. They remind me of bathroom doors for some reason. The post on the right makes it asymmetrical yet seems to fit the look. Weird but interesting!
